Take Action: Donate Diapers
The Middlesex United Way is holding a diaper drive this Tuesday for families in Middlesex County.
On Tuesday, June 21, the Middlesex United Way will partner with area Stop & Shop stores throughout Middlesex County for a diaper drive.
The organization is collecting disposable diapers during its "Day of Action," an annual event that allows volunteers to focus on a need within the community.
"There are about 3,000 families with children who do not have the diapers they need," said Jill Davoll, Middlesex United Way's Director of Communications.
The Middlesex United Way became a service area of The Diaper Bank in 2010, and receives 120,000 disposable diapers each year, which are distributed throughout the county Davoll said. The program, however, only receives enough diapers to assist 200 families according to Davoll, which leaves babies’ health and well-being seriously at risk if not diapered properly.
"This can lead to more serious, long term health problems," she adds.
Volunteers will collect diaper drop-offs on Tuesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the five Stop & Shop locations in Middlesex County:
- 215 East Main Street, Clinton
- 195 West Street, Cromwell
- 11 E. High Street, East Hampton
- 416 East Main Street, Middletown
- 65 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook
Other drop off locations include:
- YMCA of Northern Middlesex County - Middletown
- Durham Town Hall - Durham
